The castle of San Terenzo is a fortification in the seaside village of San Terenzo, a hamlet of the municipality of Lerici, in the province of La Spezia. The castle of San Terenzo stands on a rocky spur at the western end of the bay that closes the body of water in front of the village. Like other castles in the area, it has been the subject of interventions in different periods which, however, have not taken away from the harmony of the whole.
The castle of Lerici is a polygonal fortification that stands in a dominant position on the rocky promontory of the Lerici inlet, in the province of La Spezia.The castle was built starting from 1152 and underwent numerous transformations by the maritime republics, mainly by the Republic of Genoa and, to a lesser extent, by the Republic of Pisa, which due to its strategic position, disputed its possession in the mid-thirteenth century. With the last modification in 1555, the castle ended up taking on its current appearance when, at the behest of the Genoese Offizio di San Giorgio, the works were completed and, to commemorate the event, the plaque still visible today on the entrance portal was applied.
